The U.S. and Turkey: The Double Helix
Public DepositedThis paper examines the current state of Turkish-U.S. relations. While many have noted a chill in the relationship between the two countries, Finn suggests that recent tension has a longer historical background. Rather than a recent development, Finn suggests that Turkish-U.S. relations have seen periods of tension before over the last century. The paper concludes by analyzing the contemporary Erdogan regime's increasingly religious agenda, weakening of press freedom, and the decline in NATO-Turkish cooperation.
