Silver Screen to Silver Bullet: A Cultural Explanation for Nigeria's Economic Growth

Public Deposited

While many sources have pointed to oil wealth, a British postcolonial legacy, and a developmental state as the foundation for the incredible economic rise of Nigeria in recent decades, I question the validity of those existing schools of thought and present a cultural explanation. The Nigerian people and their cultural affinity for entrepreneurship has been the force that has enabled Nigeria to grow under adverse conditions. Through examining the cultural production industries, primarily video production, the mechanisms of entrepreneurship present themselves and indicate a feedback loop that is strengthening the message of entrepreneurship within the culture of Nigeria.
