Unmet Needs and Diminished Opportunities: Disability, Displacement, and Humanitarian Healthcare

Public Deposited

Seven to ten percent of the world's 43.3 million forcibly displaced persons are believed to be people with disabilities. This report examines the health-related needs of displaced persons with disabilities and how these needs can be better addressed in the context of displacement camps. It uses two methodological stages: first, an on-site visit to Dzaleka refugee camp in Malawi, and second, interviews with key informants in the humanitarian profession. The report concludes with a number of future recommendations to improve the lives of disabled displaced peoples.
