Bioresponsive Imaging Strategies for Lanthanide-Based Probes
PublicBioresponsive imaging probes act as beacons to allow detection, tracking, and study of otherwise invisible actors in biological systems. Understanding how these underlying systems function in their native context is essential to identifying dysfunction and generating effective remedies. Magnetic Resonance techniques are particularly interesting for this application because of the diverse strategies that can be employed to study targets of interest. Herein, multiple approaches to studying biological systems using bioresponsive probes are presented. Targeted probes for receptor visualization by MR and nuclear imaging are described, as are multiple approaches to harness the unique magnetic properties of several lanthanides to sense local pH, oxygen levels, or enzyme activity.
