This article examines the successes and challenges of using the open-source mapping software Ushahidi for tracking instances of violence (riots, looting, sexual assault etc.) in the Democratic Republic of Congo. While mapping software has the power to aggregate data on displaced populations, the article discusses the challenges of verification and data collection in Ushahidi.
