Decay Rates for the Damped Wave Equation on the Torus

This thesis provides an introduction to decay rates for the damped wave equation on compact manifolds. It also gives a proof of a sharp decay rate for solutions to the damped wave equation on the torus with damping of a particular polynomial form. Finally it gives a proof of a decay rate when the damping is invariant in one direction and satisfies a derivative bound condition.
