Climate change impacts on a native endemic thistle, Cirsium pitcheri
Public DepositedTwo experiments were conducted to assess the germination, growth, and survival of Cirsium pitcheri Torr. ex Eaton T & G in the Chicagoland region. The first experiment involved growing seeds from various native populations to determine tolerance for the current Chicagoland climate. The second experiment tested three of the populations from the first experiment to determine tolerance for the future Chicagoland climate predicted by climate change models. The three populations were selected to test large versus small populations and three populations along a latitudinal gradient, as well as examine populations that did well in the first experiment versus a population that did poorly.
